Tera Woh Pyar (Nawazishein Karam) – English Translation and Literary Appreciation

English translation and appreciation of the song "Tera Woh Pyar (Nawazishein Karam), Momina Mustehsan & Asim Azhar, Episode 6, Coke Studio Season 9 as per my understanding.

I would like you to listen to it and then read further:

Introduction:

A heart-breaking conversation between two beloved doves who are separated by the destiny. They sing in their pain remembering those good days and also mention the present state of being away from each other. Miles apart from each other yet they sing their hearts out knowing that somewhere my beloved is listening to me.
Although, there’s no science or theory to explain this, they knew their words were being heard by each other. After all, love needs no science.

"Baatein teri karte hue
Thak ke so jaati hoon sirhaane aasmaan"

Translation:
I sleep under the sky tired, speaking about you.

Appreciation:
Under the open starlit sky, she thinks about him till sleep takes over. Staring at the dark sky full of stars she throws herself into the infinity of the universe. Defying the gravity, she falls into the infinity of sky drowned in the thoughts of her beloved. Against her will, her body does not accompany her on the boundless journey of thoughts. And she falls asleep then and there.

"Jaane kahaan mud jaati hain
Dekhte dekhte tujhe yeh galiyaan"

Translation:
I look at you but the curves of the road make you vanish from my sight

Appreciation:
She wonders why the sleep takes her away from the thoughts of her beloved? The curves of the journey make him fade away from her distant sight.

"Teri tarah khushbu chale
Taare hamaari tarah raaton se mile"

Translation:

I feel your fragrance in the air, when I see the stars meet like us in the darkness of night

Appreciation:
The way stars meet each other in the shelter of the darkness of night, she recollects those days when she used to meet him secretly in the darkness of the night. She remembers his fragrance, the fragrance that storms into her, leaving no room for the sorrow she carries with her every day. The fragrance that she will cherish for life, neither sweet nor sour, neither good nor bad, it had its own uniqueness which she never finds elsewhere.

"Suni nahi zamaane ne teri meri kahaaniyaan
Karde koyi nawaazishen karam mehrbaaniyaan"

Translation:
The world didn’t listen to our story. Please someone have mercy upon us and do kindness.

Appreciation:
Remembering all this she cries out as the world didn’t understand their love. Relevant to the time, place and the culture, agreement from family was the most important thing. The emotions and the pitch in which she sings this line, manifests how truly she must had tried to make her family understand but all went in vain. Inspite of all these hardships, there is still a ray of hope and she prays to the god for its mercy upon them and grant their wish.

"Yeh aarzu thi ki dekhe yeh duniya
Hum jaisa koi deewaana hi nahi
Karde koyi nawaazishen karam mehrbaaniyaan"

Translation:
We had desired that the world would see upon us and think that there no one as loving as we are. Please someone have mercy upon us and shower kindness upon us.

Appreciation:
On one of those nights when they met, leaning her head over his robust chest, resting over him, they sat staring at the starlit sky and dreamed of their future, inspiring the other youths who were mad in love, like them. But the castle of their dreams was shattered by the waves of reality. If things go as expected than wake up, it is a dream. Life is surrounded by the clouds of uncertainties, with just on certainty that thing will not happen as you wish to. All this with a pray to the god for having mercy.

"Raat andheri mein chhup rahe the
Gum ek savera dhoond rahe the
Sadiyon se jaise jaag rahe the
Pyaar ko apne dhaanp rahe the
"

Translation:
We were hiding into the darkness,  searching for the day lost inside it. Awake since decades, securing our delicate love.

Appreciation:
She reminisces the old days venturing together into the darkness to find a morning lost inside the crude oil of the night. A morning that will cease their meeting in nights and kill the fear of getting caught. Of all these difficulties, nurturing their love and protecting it from all the negative things of their life and evil world around them.

"Phir gir pade
Koyi mila naa sahaara kya karein
Suni nahi zamaane ne teri meri kahaaniyaan"

Translation:
And we fell down, didn’t get any support what to do? The world didn’t listen to our story.

Appreciation:
And then they fell, without any support from anyone they were helpless. Crying on why the world didn’t understand their love?

"Tera woh pyaar yaad aayega
Bhoolega naa yeh dil mera
Kya ho gaya socha nah tha"

Translation:
Your love will always be remembered and my heart will never forget the love. Never thought that this would happen.

Appreciation:
Back to the present, away from her beloved she promises to him that she will always remember his love and her heart will never forget it. Whether they reunite or not, the love has rooted deep inside. What they were, happy, loving and together, and now what all has happened which they have never imagined of.

"Teri woh khaamoshiyaan
Kah deti theen woh sabhi
Jo tu nah keh saki"

Translation:
Your silence unfolded to me everything which you were unable to say.

Appreciation:
Without her uttering a single word, her silence spoke everything to him. The love, the happiness, the sorrows and all those mixed feelings like wild waves of a stormy sea, never went unsaid to him regardless of her speaking it out. The relationship they had was beyond words where silence speaks in volumes.

"Kaise bataati tujhe
Sharmaati thi main jaise
Aanchal men jalta diya"

Translation:
I could I tell you as I was shy like a struggling flame of an oil lamp protected by a cloth.

Appreciation:
Very beautifully and elegantly she replies to him by comparing her blush or shyness with a struggling flame of an oil lamp that’s protected from the winds with a fragile piece of cloth. Again, we see the cultural relevancy where the shyness is one of the most crucial and beautiful quality of a girl. Flaunting the shyness or the blush as her quality she explains him the reason behind her silence.

"Khoye kahaan mujh ko bata
Tera woh pyaar yaad aayega
Bhoolega nah yeh dil mera"

Translation:
Tell me where did we get lost?  Your love will always be remembered and my heart will never forget the love.

Appreciation:
The bright shiny day was enveloped by the dark gloomy grey clouds. It was all going so beautiful, where did we lost and what went wrong tell me, he asks. He is not asking her, he is venting out the pain inside him to the unknown force that binds us and separates us. Amongst all this, they both promise that they will always remember their love and it will stay forever in their heart, no matter what.

Conclusion:
The emotion of love is the most important thing. People move on, we all do and even if we don’t move on the time drags us along with it. Yet, the emotion of love which remains permanently fixed in one’s heart. What’s important is the emotion of love whether you are bonded by the man-made institutions like marriages or relationships, does not matter much. Nothing is as powerful as the emotion of love, the strongest of all. Having said this, the pain of not being in some man-made institutions is still unbearable. No matter how much you explain yourself about all these we are humans at the end and we are definitely lured to these intuitions. The pain is less if the love is one sided. Believe me, one sided love gives less pain than the two sided love. The pain is excruciating knowing the fact that even the other person loved you but you didn’t succeed due to various reasons what so ever...
